Everyone hopes a better rate appears in October. For Christmas and New Year in Jamaica, it usually doesn't — and this year there is an extra reason.
The instinct to wait is a good one for most of the year. Jamaica in September is cheaper than Jamaica in September booked in March. Late availability is real and we use it constantly.
Christmas is the exception, and it is not close.
Two weeks around Christmas and New Year are the highest-demand dates on the island. Resorts price them early, price them high, and rarely discount them, because they sell out regardless. Waiting does not get you a better rate — it gets you a worse room category at the same rate, or nothing at all.
This year there is a second factor. Several large properties are still closed and do not reopen until November and December, which takes a meaningful number of rooms out of the market precisely when demand peaks. Less inventory, same demand.
