Lima

Visa-free for Jamaican passport holders

One of the world’s serious food cities, sitting on cliffs above the Pacific — and the gateway to Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Most travellers pass through Lima. The ones who stop are usually glad they did.

Advisor’s notes

  • The best restaurants take reservations months out — tell us early and we’ll try
  • Two nights in Lima before flying to Cusco also helps you arrive rested
  • Cusco sits far higher than Lima; the altitude plan matters and we’ll build one

Questions

Should we combine Lima with Machu Picchu?

Almost always. Lima for the food, then Cusco and the Sacred Valley, then Machu Picchu. We build the altitude acclimatisation into the itinerary.

When is the weather best?

December to April. Outside those months the coastal fog can sit over the city for days, though the food is unaffected.

Is this a long trip?

Peru properly done is ten days or more. Lima alone can be a three-night stop.
